Kimmie Sue came to MSRH thru the SPCA and a puppymill bust — Sherry Eitel, Kimmie’s Schnauzer Angel, picked her up and took her to PRAH — the other 4 went to another vet — Kimmie had hematomas in both ears due to severe ear infections and ear mites — This had to be surgically corrected. She also got spay. Kimmie was so thin, you could count her ribs from across the room. Five days after coming home for foster care to recouperate, she got sick — One week to the day, from her first trip to PRAH, she went again. They could not hear anything in her chest so started the barium series of xrays. The very first xray showed an infection in her lungs. It appeared to be fungal. She was on IV’s for about 10 days — and was nebulized starting with day 3. She came home still be neubulized and thinner than the first time. She started taking an antifungal medicine by mouth. Six weeks later, another xray — the medicine had not gotten rid of the fungal infection — so Dr Dayton did some investigation and found another med - given by IV that was supposed to be very successful in treating this type of fungus. Kimmie was a trooper and had this for 3 weeks — 3 x a week — by now she feels like a pin cushion!! She will get xrayed on May 2 and again in 3 weeks — we hope and pray that she will be rid of this awful infection, but if not, we may have to go to a specialist.
Kimmie’s vetting is approx $4000 .
The other 4 minis also had to be treated for lung infections, but thankfully theirs were bacterial — also one was heartworm positive.
MSRH needs to raise approx $8000 to help cover the cost of all this critical care. If you can help Kimmie and the others, they will forever be grateful.
