Benson (aka Lil’ Bit)

Crossed Over:  August 31, 2009

My oldest rescue boy (estimated at 14 years), Benson, known affectionately around here as Lil’ Bit, departed for heaven on August 31, 2009.

Benson was a small dog, with a huge presence.  He joined the pack at Serenity Ranch for Retired Miniature Schnauzers at two yaers ago.  Lil’ Bit was blind in one eye and nearly blind in the other.   But his ears sure worked well and he learned to get around by listening for us.  Within a few days, he had reorganized the pecking order in the pack to put himself as the leader and put Miss Cagney’s nose out of joint.  Even on the morning of his passing, she was testing him to see if he would back down.  She is going to miss having him to pick on!  Miss Lacey loved to clean Benson as he was th eonly one who would sit still for as long s she wanted to fawn on him. He got a great bath on the morning of his passing as Lacey did not want him to show up in Heaven dirty!  With the hormone imbalance Benson’s departing has put in the pack, Bailey is going to be outnumbered once again!  Bailey will miss Benson the most at night when he doesn’t have a buddy to snuggle up against.  Who knew that Lil’ Bit would sneak his way so quickly into our hearts!  His grouchy little old dog habits and endearing way of using his blindness to snuggle his head into any human female chest will be fondly remembered.  We will be waiting for the next old friend to come to us….Cagney and Lacey make great seeing eye dogs!  With Love, Lori Magyar
