Who We Are
Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston, Inc. (MSRH), is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization sponsored entirely by donations. We are dedicated to the never-ending, sometimes overwhelming, task of saving the lives of abused, abandoned, and/or unwanted Miniature Schnauzers who have lost their homes through no fault of their own.
We do not operate a shelter. Most of our dogs reside in loving foster homes, until they find their perfect forever home. Others spend time in a veterinary clinic for treatment, if needed, and a few may be kept in boarding where they can get training due to social issues. Many of our dogs come to us healthy. Others are sick or injured. They may come to us from shelters, from the streets, from puppy mills or from owners who cannot, or will not, care for them any longer. In almost all cases, at least in their recent past, they have not felt the security of a loving home.
Our goal is to ensure these fine dogs get healthy, never again face life in a dangerous situation, and instead live in a safe, loving, and secure home for the rest of their lives. Since February 2000, we have orchestrated over 3,000 adoptions.
This cutie is Stormi. Unfortunately, Stormi had to have both of her eyes removed due to Glaucoma. She still needs a home and one that can handle her blindness and will love her just the way she is. She is five years old and weighs about 15 pounds. Just remember you love with your heart not your eyes! Could that be you?
If you are interested in any of our Schnauzers that are ready for adoption, please complete an Adoption Application, and an Adoption Counselor will be in touch with you.
WE DESPERATELY NEED FOSTERS As we are getting many calls from both shelters and people who are no longer able to care for their pet, we are rescuing more Miniature Schnauzers. With summer in full force, many of our Fosters are on vacation and unable to help. If you have time and would like to foster a Miniature Schnauzer, please go to the Forms tab and complete the Foster Application. We certainly appreciate your help.
Please visit our For Adoption, Just Arrived and Waiting in the Wings pages for detailed descriptions for each dog and to view all of our dogs available for adoption. If you see one you are interested in, please complete the Adoption Application under the Forms tab. We do not have a facility where you can view our rescues, as all of our Schnauzers are in foster homes. When you are approved as as adopter, we will be happy to set up meetings with any of our rescues.
A Rescue with a Heart
Each month MSRH takes in approx. 25 -30 dogs in need of forever homes. They come to us as owner surrenders, strays or directly from various animal shelters. Each rescue is then evaluated and fully vetted. Many are in need of medical support. MSRH treats many dogs each month for heartworms. Treatment is costly, but life saving. We have no shelter. We rely on loving foster homes to provide a nurturing environment until each rescue finds their new family. When we cannot find a foster home, or a new rescue needs some extra training, our rescues may be boarded. Boarding is costly, so we are always in need of foster families. If you are willing to open your home to one of our rescues, please fill out our foster application.
Please consider donating to help MSRH defray medical and monthly operating costs. Click on this link to donate. Under Payment Purpose, select Veterinary, Boarding or Unrestricted Donation. Thank you in advance for supporting MSRH. All monies donated benefit rescues in need. With your help we are finding forever homes for more rescues.
NOTE: At MSRH events, volunteers are available to provide information on the rescue organization, the breed and the adoption process, however there are no on-site adoption of dogs.
